Freelance PCB Layout Designer / Librarian
Job Description
Due to the nature of work performed at our facilities, US citizenship is required.
Qualifications:
Client has an immediate opening for a PCB Layout Designer / Librarian. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
- Performs detailed design and documentation of mechanical components or subsystems
- Manages own design sub-tasks in support of the duties within the project assigned
- Contributes to design and documentation of semi-complex mechanical components as active member of project team
- Produces two-dimensional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) CAD work product output for fabrication and assembly
- Generates mechanical designs considering material requirements and functional characteristics
- Generates and checks semi-complex to complex drawings
- Performs tolerance analysis studies as required
- Creates new and/or revises existing drawings using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, and bills of material for our products
- Determines scaling; inserts necessary reference planes, centering and dimension lines, hidden line interpolations, and sectioning; prepares specifications for parts, assemblies, and installations; prepares complete production detail drawings; contributes design modifications to improve quality of product or facilitate manufacturing operations
- Checks drawings versus the project input for correctness and conformance to standard engineering drafting practices and standards
- Works with engineers regarding model accuracy, design, drafting standards and ECN/ECR documentation
- Creates Engineering Change Notices detailing the necessary changes to released designs, updates drawings/models/BOMs as needed, and routes change requests through the approval process
- Creates and revises documentation detailing assembly and/or testing
- May work with system management including file maintenance, backup and storage
- Writes technical documents, test procedures, installation procedures, and process documents
- Conducts research to make recommendations to management for new vendors, products or technical specifications
- Consistently works on complex assignments requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues
- Makes recommendations for new procedures
- Works within project plans
- Researches and interfaces with vendors on products that meet job design requirements
- Uses the Engineering Change database to implement changes in a design document to cut costs where needed and record changes that are needed to improve on a product
- Works as individual technical contributor or as part of development team
- Provides work leadership to drafters
- Manages small team of drafters
- Advanced or senior level position

- Assists engineers in the design and development of complex and detailed layouts of printed circuit boards Participates in developing designs of new or modified high-density printed circuit boards
- May define design standards and configurations
- Works from preliminary schematics, part lists, and basic description of the board function, configuration, and arrangement as defined by engineering
- Instructs drafter in the completion of drawings and specifications
- May perform the checking of design layouts and detailed drawings
- Advanced or senior level position

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated knowledge source in the use of the strategic CAD and file management tools
- Demonstrated knowledge in the use of current strategic CAD tools (Mentor Graphics)
- A minimum of two years of experience in ECAD/PCB/EDA library development complainant to IPC 7351 a must.
- A minimum of seven years of experience in PCB design
- Experience using Mentor Graphics Expedition/xDM tool suite a must.
- Experience with a parts request system and library management practices
- Experience with and understanding of the ECAD/PCB layout design processes
- Knowledge of one or more tools from the Mentor Graphics suite (xDM, DMS, Expedition. DXdatabook, PADS, BoardStation).
- Knowledge of PCB/CCA fabrication and board manufacturing processes
- Knowledge of MIL specs and standards related to library development
- Knowledge of ECAD library management practices and ECAD Library development principles to minimize design risks and hazards
- Understanding of IPC-7351 standard land patterns and/or other footprint calculation methods and standards or automation development tool such as PCB Library Expert.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work with and take directions from Functional Management, Component Engineers, Sr. ECAD Engineers, Product Development Engineer, ECAD/PCB Design Layout Engineers and varying levels of related engineering disciplines
- Ability to produce and evaluate high quality deliverables as well as receive feedback from peers for improvements to work quality on a regular basis
- Ability to interpret component manufacturer’s datasheets including electrical, functional and mechanical data
- Strong written and verbal communication skills using daily tools such as MSOffice as well as variety of communication methodologies including Email, telephone, instant messaging and video conferencing
- Knowledge of operating system concepts and implementations as well as networked services including collaboration tools and documentation collections
- Ability to navigate multiple complex specifications, processes and tools.
- Ability to effectively multi-task and shift from one task to another as priorities dictate
- Self-starter that is comfortable with and knows when to ask questions or ask for help
MUST HAVE
A minimum of seven years of experience in PCB design
A minimum of two years of experience in ECAD/PCB/EDA library development complainant to IPC 7351.
Experience using Mentor Graphics Expedition/xDM tool suite
Knowledge of PCB/CCA fabrication and board manufacturing processes
Knowledge of MIL specs and standards related to library development
