Seeking a Process Automation Specialist for the Global Manufacturing Technology Group in the Reverse Osmosis/ Nano Filtration Business at DuPont.

Job Summary:

Seeking an Process Automation Specialist for the Reverse Osmosis/Nano Filtration Water Purification Business. The Water Solutions Business is headquartered in Edina, MN and this position will be located at that site.  This person will work within a team to define new manufacturing technologies, developing those technologies for scale up to production, provide advanced troubleshooting to manufacturing, and working to improve current manufacturing equipment and processes across all global manufacturing sites.  The job will require working with multifunctional teams including manufacturing, R&D, and business functions.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop and improve Most Effective Technology (MET) for process automation in the Reverse Osmosis technology portfolio
  • Develop and optimize current automation techniques, processes and architecture for process automation and automation control across multiple sites.
  • Manage and execute instrumentation, process control and automation projects – focusing on project definition, detailed design, verification, construction and start up activities. Work closely with other disciplines such as process engineering, the MES group, manufacturing, operations, maintenance, etc for executing projects.
  • Lead activities involving system design, configuration, testing, cutover, and start-up. Ensure compliance with local, regulatory, corporate and business standards for system hardware and software.
  • Develop and work with Process Control Strategy Documents (PCSD). Ensure that PCSDs are updated when changes are made to the equipment. Ensure that sufficient code descriptions are included with the PLC code to document the intended control strategy.
  • Train and mentor Engineers, Plant Process Control Coordinators and Maintenance Technicians who have process control / automation responsibilities.
  • Engage our alliance partners and contracted engineering companies for instrumentation and process control / automation activities as needed to supplement business resources to meet business expectations. Manage their project performance, and monitor the quality of their engineering and maintenance services.
  • Identify, develop, and lead generational developments in process automation, data control and hardware specifications to continuously improve new and existing processes.
  • Provide inputs to establish cost estimates and manufacturing plans
  • Determine process automation requirements and assist in the development of capital expansion projects both locally and globally for new process development and capacity expansion supporting large project teams.
  • Perform process automation and electrical design reviews for upgrades or new equipment projects
  • Develop extensive high-level troubleshooting capabilities to provide tactical support for manufacturing operations when needed
  • Develop expertise of internal Machine Risk Assessment process and drive compliance and improvement throughout all projects to ensure equipment meets safety requirements (Risk assessment process is based on ISO-12100 and related standards) and become SME for machine safety
  • Create & update specifications for Process Automation of equipment purchased through Custom Equipment Manufacturers to drive high reliability, quality and operability.
  • Review Process Automation Strategy Documents created by projects for compliance and to assist in process automation logic to be written.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a electrical engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of at least 3 years of experience in process control, design, programming and automation of a 24/7 manufacturing operation and minimum of five (5) years combined manufacturing, project and/or engineering development.

MUST HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Process Control or Chemical Engineering with strong experience in process automation
    • Strong understanding of manufacturing (including automation), engineering, quality systems, & production systems (MES & ERP)
    • Background in process automation specification and electrical design
    • Experience with verifying field wiring, instrument checkout, motors, electrical systems maintenance, PID tuning, commissioning of PLCs, networks, drives and evaluating equipment performance
    • Proficient in Rockwell Automation suite of products and other Software including but not limited to: RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View SE, RSLinx, InfoPlus.21, Motion Analyzer, Network Architecture, SISTEMA
    • Experience with one or more of the following: drives tuning, web handling, PLC architecture design, drive sizing, multiple network architecture, manufacturing execution system(s), PLC integration, PLC to PLC Communication, and I/O Link
    • Ability to understand electrical diagrams
    • Experience developing and implementing new manufacturing processes and/or technologies
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Experience with Fanuc suite of products and software
    • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical and electrical design techniques
    • Experience working with ISO-13849 and associated standards
    • TÜV Machine Safety Certification or CMSE Certification is a plus
    • Minimum of 8 years’ experience is preferred, ideally in a manufacturing environment
    • Knowledge and experience in applying Six Sigma tools
    • Experience working on Global Projects and/or Global Project Teams
