JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Searching for an experienced Human Resource / Labor Relations Specialist.  The successful candidate will partner with the Site HR Leader to manage day to day activities and work in partnership with the site leadership team and employee population to cultivate a culture of operational excellence.
  • Midland, Michigan is the home base for this position.
  • We are looking for candidate with exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Someone with deep experience in manufacturing who can identify and relate to the day-to-day challenges of running an operation.
  • The HR/LR leader is an active member of the site leadership teams they support.
  • The person who fills this position must have demonstrated influential leadership capabilities at all levels of the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Address all employee matters with a sense of urgency accordance with site, company, state, and federal policies and procedures.
  • Serve as resident expert in HR/LR, provide guidance in a pro-active manner for all employees and leaders in areas of:
    • Recruitment and retention

    • Employee engagement
    • Performance management
    • Career planning and development
  • Communicate and implement HR/LR programs and initiatives. Adapt programs as necessary to meet site needs within defined program boundaries.
  • Partner with Site HR Leader and Labor COE to continue development of positive relations with the local USW union; liaise with Labor COE to continue development of best-in-class labor relations programs and practices.
  • Effectively identify, interpret, and communicate in a proactive manner the opportunities for improvement in the HR / LR space.  Collaborate with appropriate COE (centers of excellence) resources to develop appropriate solutions.
  • Be an effective change agent actively supporting the implementation of business initiatives; guide leadership in sound change-management practices.
  • Be an employee advocate, developing and interpreting policies and site practices, resolving people-related issues, and consulting on strategic and employee relations opportunities.
  • Actively coach leadership in resolving employee issues. Focus on talent development and improve leadership capabilities with real time support.
  • Responsible to partner with leadership to stay current on staffing strategies to ensure adequate resources are available to support the assets.
  • Support critical HR components; salary / wage evaluations, job evaluation and internal benchmark leveling, FLSA compliance, selection & hiring, training & development, succession planning, performance management, performance improvement plans, career path progression, job movement, reward & recognition, and organizational health assessments.
  • Proactively identify market conditions that may negatively impact the human resource plan for the site.  Evaluate, research, and make recommendations for future stability and retention of talent or to support strategic business goals.
  • Conduct confidential investigations in regard to employee concerns with a sense of urgency and provide summary results to appropriate leadership and corporate.
  • Manage performance management actions in a consistent manner to promote internal equity and focus on performance improvement.
  • Responsible for the communication of site/business initiatives with Union representatives as appropriate.
  • Ensure appropriate steps are taken with union leadership to effectively implement program or policy changes.
  • Responsible for owning all LR activities:  grievances, arbitrations, union information requests, CBA negotiations, all site policy / program changes.
  • Collaborate with internal legal resources on employee and labor relations topics as necessary.
  • Able to leverage technology to create compelling stories to employees and leadership; this may include analyzing data in excel, creating presentations in power point, etc.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • You have 7+ years of direct HR experience partnering with clients at all levels of the organization in a dynamic, manufacturing environment.
  • You have at least 5 years of labor relations experience to include relationship building, grievance and arbitration management.
  • Contract negotiations experience preferred.
  • Experience using power point and excel in presentations/analysis required.
  • You have experience supporting cross functional teams and managing multiple stakeholders; you thrive on being a strong collaborator across culturally and geographically dispersed teams.

  • You hold a BS/BA degree in Human Resources / Labor Relations / Industrial Relations; other 4-year degrees considered with relevant work experience in the functional space.
  • Proficient with human resources information systems (Workday, ADP e-Time).
  • Travel 10 to 20%.

MUST HAVE:

Deep experience in MANUFACTURING
