Job Description:
Seeking an experienced Structural Engineer (SE) for full-time exempt salaried employment. Candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment. The ideal candidate is reliable, organized and has a strong desire to work at a high level of accuracy. We offer a professional environment to expand skill sets into other areas of development. This position performs structural engineering duties in support of the design, construction and management of public and private projects. This position has functional supervision over assigned personnel.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Prepares plans and specifications for projects, prepares preliminary cost estimates and rough orders of magnitude; prepares and reviews plans and specifications; resolves construction and design problems utilizing agency of jurisdiction guidelines that require judgement, selection, and interpretation in application.
- Provides project management for projects’ and oversees assigned projects to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, deadlines, and budgets.
- On public works projects, coordinate contract payments; resolves construction problems and design fixes in the field.
- Directs technical staff in drafting, surveying, and inspection duties.
- Prepares technical reports on engineering design decisions for assigned projects and activities.
- Organize, participate, or lead preconstruction conferences with agencies of jurisdiction, contractors, service providers and other interested parties.
- Prepares and manages consultant agreements for various services. Works with other departments internally to ensure a full compliance.
- Facilitate the design of building facades.
- Liaising with relevant professional staff such as architects. Assist in responding to questions from contractors, public agencies, and officials, or general public regarding policies, procedures, and practices.
- Performs related duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering and two (2) years of Professional Structural Engineer (SE) experience including relevant project design and construction management; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, certifications and training in lieu of specifically required qualifications listed above.
- Skills in performing engineering computations and in preparing engineering designs.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Washington for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Certification as a Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training or the ability to obtain Washington state registration within one year of hire and maintain throughout employment.
- Must be able to pass a federal background check and work on public works projects.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Experience with a computer aided drafting program (such as AutoCAD).
- Knowledge and use of Washington State Energy Code compliance.
- Phone System (Mitel) & Microsoft Suite Skills
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations and standards for design, bidding, and construction.
- Skill in analyzing, interpreting and preparing reports.
- Skills in oral and written communication.
- Skill in exercising professional engineering judgment to achieve results consistent with objectives.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while standing or walking.
- The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be occasionally exposed to machinery with moving parts.
